Syriac Cross nursing training empowers women in North and East Syria

HASAKAH and BETH ZALIN, North and East Syria — The Syriac Cross Organization for Relief and Development reinforced its dedication to empowering women in North and East Syria by continuing professional nursing training sessions for women in Hasakah and Beth Zalin (Qamishli). This initiative forms a key part of a broader development project designed to enhance women’s economic and social roles within their communities.

In Hasakah, the training sessions are hosted at the Beth Nahrain Academy for Young Women, supported by the Syriac Cross and Caritas Slovakia. The workshops provide both practical and theoretical instruction in essential nursing skills, including injection techniques, emergency first aid, and an introduction to medical equipment. The program aims to equip participants with the skills needed for healthcare careers while imparting valuable knowledge for everyday situations.

The nursing course is one of several professional training opportunities offered, which also include computer skills, sewing, and women’s hairstyling. These diverse programs are designed to empower women by broadening their career prospects. Participants have praised the courses for their practical benefits and supportive learning environments.

In Beth Zalin, similar programs are held at the Family Center, expanding the initiative’s reach and ensuring more women have access to these resources. By operating in two major cities, the Syriac Cross is working to equip a larger number of women with valuable skills, contributing to the long-term development of the region.

This integrated approach underscores the organization’s commitment to strengthening women’s societal roles through education and capacity building, fostering self-sufficiency and active participation in community development.
