Trump Signals Readiness for Military Action Against Iran if Talks Collapse

WASHINGTON, D.C./TEHRAN — In an interview with Time Magazine, U.S. President Donald Trump signaled his willingness to resort to military action against Iran should ongoing nuclear negotiations fail to achieve a diplomatic resolution. Trump denied claims made in a New York Times report that he had actively prevented Israel from launching an attack on Iran during the discussions. “I didn’t stop them, but I didn’t make it comfortable for them,” he remarked, projecting confidence that a deal with Iran could be reached without escalating to conflict.

The president also discussed the Abraham Accords, a groundbreaking normalization agreement between Israel and several Arab states, signed during his previous tenure. Trump expressed optimism about Saudi Arabia joining the accords, noting that his upcoming visit to the Kingdom next month—a rare foreign trip—may lay the groundwork for their inclusion. “I believe Saudi Arabia will join,” he said, highlighting the importance of reviving and expanding the pact, which originally included four member countries.

Trump’s remarks underscore the delicate balance between diplomacy and force in the U.S.-Iran relationship. Any military intervention could have profound ripple effects across the Middle East, intensifying tensions with regional actors such as Iran, Israel, and Saudi Arabia, while reshaping global alliances. His confidence in achieving a deal reflects the significance of preserving stability while maintaining a firm stance against Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

The potential inclusion of Saudi Arabia in the accords would mark a significant milestone in regional diplomacy. The Abraham Accords, celebrated during Trump’s presidency, initially sought to foster economic, political, and cultural ties between Israel and participating Arab nations. Saudi Arabia’s membership would signal an expanded commitment to peacebuilding and could transform geopolitical dynamics, strengthening partnerships among the region’s key players.

Trump’s approach, blending assertive rhetoric with diplomatic aspirations, illustrates the complexity of navigating nuclear talks while pursuing broader strategic goals. His remarks place a spotlight on the vital intersection between peacebuilding efforts like the Abraham Accords and the fragile nature of nuclear negotiations with Iran. As the region watches closely, the implications of his strategy could shape future U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East.
