Syriac Union Party participates in Armenian Genocide memorial event in Hasakah, North and East Syria

HASAKAH, North and East Syria — The Armenian Orthodox St. John the Baptist Church hosted a ceremony commemorating the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide under the patronage of Archbishop of Aleppo Magar Ashkarian. The event was presided over by Archbishop Vicar Archimandrite Levon Yeghiaian.

Held at the Armenian Orthodox Club in Hasakah, the ceremony brought together Armenian clergy, political and civil representatives, and community members. A large contingent of Syriacs (Arameans–Assyrians–Chaldeans) also participated, emphasizing the shared history and solidarity between the groups.

A delegation from the Syriac Union Party (Gabo d’Ḥuyodo Suryoyo, SUP) attended, including members of the SUP General Council Fadi Dawe and Maha Shabo, Relations Office Member Armen Mardo, and Branch Council Members Sawsan Abdul Ahad, Khatoun Mardo, and Adnan Elia.

The commemoration began with prayers at the memorial monument, followed by a candlelight procession to the Armenian Orthodox Club. Attendees observed a moment of silence before the Armenian national anthem was performed.

Throughout the event, heartfelt speeches honored the memory of the genocide’s victims, accompanied by cultural performances. Traditional Armenian songs, poetry, and dances highlighted the resilience and rich heritage of the Armenian people.

This solemn and vibrant gathering underscored the community’s commitment to preserving its history and advocating for recognition of the atrocities committed against the Armenian people over a century ago.
