Clashes in Jaramana escalate tensions in southern Daramsuq amid Israeli intervention

JARAMANA, Syria — A surge of violent clashes has shaken the city of Jaramana, located in the Daramsuq (Damascus) countryside, as Syrian Transitional Government (STG) forces grapple with armed Druze factions. The confrontations have resulted in numerous casualties, igniting further security turmoil and drawing direct Israeli involvement, purportedly aimed at “protecting the Druze community.”

The violence erupted days ago, leaving dozens dead and injured. The unrest spilled into neighboring regions, with mortar shells striking the village of Rassas, south of Suwayda, and intense skirmishes erupting near Ara. In Al-Sura al-Kabira, the population endured over 30 minutes of relentless shelling and gunfire.

Late Wednesday, STG forces announced the recapture of Sahnaya following over 20 hours of intense battles. The clashes reportedly claimed the lives of more than 20 individuals from both sides.

The STG Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized its commitment to the safety of all Syrians, including the Druze community, describing them as an “integral part of the nation’s fabric.” In a formal statement, the ministry condemned all external interference, reiterating Syria’s sovereignty.

Meanwhile, Israel confirmed conducting “warning airstrikes” targeting extremists allegedly threatening Druze residents in Sahnaya. Additionally, the Israeli government disclosed the evacuation of three injured Druze individuals to Israeli hospitals for medical care.

Tensions have escalated further with the closure of key routes, including the road connecting Daramsuq to Suwayda. Authorities cited “illegal activities” by armed groups in Ashrafiyat Sahnaya as the cause, reporting civilian casualties in the area.
