Concerns mount in Syria over sectarian tensions following violence in Jaramana and Sahnaya
DARAMSUQ — Political and religious figures continue to respond to the violent clashes in Jaramana and Sahnaya over the past two days.
The Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) voiced deep concern over the deteriorating security situation, urging all parties to immediately halt escalation and seek dialogue.
DAARNES warned against repeating the sectarian massacres in Syria’s coastal regions, stressing the need for a pluralistic democratic system that represents all Syrians without exclusion. DAARNES firmly rejected military solutions to resolve crises.
Similarly, the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) strongly condemned all forms of violence, hate speech and sectarian incitement, holding the Syrian Transitional Government (STG) fully responsible for the worsening situation.
In a notable move beyond Syria’s borders, Lebanese Druze political and religious leaders warned of a planned sectarian strife in Syria, linked to recent clashes in the south and Israeli interventions.
Lebanese Druze leader Walid Jumblatt, in talks with various parties, expressed readiness to visit Daramsuq (Damascus) to help ease tensions.
