Israeli airstrikes target Hezbollah weapons facility in Bekaa, UNIFIL calls for peace
BEKAA, Lebanon — Israeli forces launched airstrikes on a strategic Hezbollah facility in the Bekaa region, targeting infrastructure used for weapons production and storage.
“The operation was initiated after detecting Hezbollah’s efforts to reestablish its operational foothold within the facility,” the Israeli military stated. The statement underscored that the presence of weapons in these areas represents a clear violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon.
Israeli strikes specifically targeted Hezbollah’s military infrastructure in the Sriffa region, the statement added.
In response, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reiterated its demand for Israel’s full withdrawal from Lebanese territory, emphasizing that its presence north of the Blue Line contravenes UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
Brigadier General Nicola Mandolesi, Commander of UNIFIL’s western sector, affirmed the peacekeeping force’s commitment to supporting communities in southern Lebanon.
“Our coordination with the Lebanese Army remains strong. We continue to assist its deployment efforts to restore security, stability, and state authority in the south,” Mandolesi stated.
The situation highlights ongoing tensions in the region, with UNIFIL urging de-escalation and adherence to international resolutions.
