Syriac Union Party in Lebanon and ‘It’s Time’ list celebrate election victory in Jdeideh–Bouchrieh–El-Sed

SED EL-BOUCHRIEH, Lebanon — Following the victory in the municipal elections of Jdeideh–Bouchrieh–El-Sed, the leader of the ‘Sar Waqta’ (‘It’s Time’) coalition list, Auguste Bakhos, visited the party office of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) on Tuesday evening. Bakhos was received by USUP President Ibrahim Mrad who warmly congratulated him and his party members on their formable electoral success.

In his welcoming speech, Mrad praised Bakhos and Sar Waqta’s success and wished all the winners success in governing. Mrad said in his speech that the current election result is a historic achievement for the Sovereign parties, who have long been fighting against the axis of corruption and treason — an indirect reference to Hezbollah and its allies. The people have spoken for change, Mrad said. He emphasized that his party members and all the people of the region place great hopes and confidence in the newly elected mayors and council members, with great hopes for new development projects after years of neglect.

He highlighted the vast experience and credibility of each member on the Sar Waqta list, who were selected according to exceptional criteria. He had a special warm word for the women chosen into official positions and encouraged them to play a leading role in reforming and developing the new municipal council.

Bakhos thanked the USUP and Mrad on behalf of all the members on his list for their confidence and great support. He stated that the trust granted in him by USUP and the other Sovereign parties not only contributed to this victory but also created an important sovereign national partnership that can really fulfill the hopes of the people of the region.

Bakhos considered this resounding victory a triumph for the “logic of state,” for transparent administration, and for real development. With the support of his coalition partners, who supported him from the beginning, change can now finally be made, he said. Bakhos concluded by saying that he feels the great responsibility to translate words into action. He promised the people of Metn that the municipality would be loyal and worthy of the trust placed in him and his list.

Sar Waqta is a cross-party list that includes members of the USUP, Lebanese Forces, Kataeb Party, and Member of Parliament in Lebanon Ibrahim Kanaan (formerly a member of the Free Patriotic Movement). The joint list won all council seats and 11 mayoral posts. From the USUP, Leila Latti was re-elected to represent Jdeideh–Bouchrieh–El-Sedd and Rola Jean Hanna was appointed municipal council member.
