Beth Nahrain Patriotic Union hails formation of Levantine National Council as a milestone for democratic Syria
ARBA’ILO, Kurdistan Region of Iraq — The Beth Nahrain Patriotic Union (Huyodo Bethnahrin Athroyo, HBA) has praised the formation of the Levantine National Council, describing it as a “historic and pivotal step” toward building a future Syria founded on democratic, civil, and inclusive principles that celebrate pluralism and diversity.
In an official statement, the HBA expressed strong support for the initiative, which it attributed to the efforts of the “political elite and youth vanguard” of the Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) people, including Syrian Christian activists.
The HBA highlighted that the Council’s establishment reflects a deep conviction among these groups about the essential role of the Christian community in shaping the framework of a new Syria. It emphasized that the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people are an integral part of Syria’s civilizational and human fabric.
Reaffirming its endorsement of the founding manifesto’s principles, the HBA stressed that the foundation of a new Syria must be rooted in reconciliation, peace, genuine coexistence, recognition of sacrifices made by all communities, the implementation of transitional justice, and respect for diversity. The organization also underscored the importance of fostering societal solidarity and embracing the “other.”
The HBA pledged to serve as a steadfast supporter of the Levantine National Council and its founders, who it stated embody the historical identity of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people in Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia). The HBA emphasized the founders’ vital role in contributing to the realization of a new and inclusive Syria.
Concluding its statement, the HBA expressed its best wishes for the success and prosperity of the Levantine National Council, affirming its confidence in the Council’s mission to promote democratic values and societal unity.
