Chaldean Chamber of Commerce and Chaldean Community Foundation open second Detroit community facility in West Bloomfield
WEST BLOOMFIELD (Michigan), U.S. – The Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce, Chaldean Community Foundation, and Chaldean News have opened a new community center on the west side of West Bloomfield Township, Metro Detroit. The renovation of the new 184-square-foot facility location costed $15 million and will house the Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce, Chaldean Community Foundation, and Chaldean News.
The new facility on the west side of West Bloomfield will operate next to the existing east side facility in Sterling Heights, opened in 2015. According to DB Business, the latter serves more than 48,000 individuals each year.
The new facility will host the Chaldean Museum with a Sayfo Genocide Gallery, the Bishop Ibrahim Library, housing manuscripts rescued from Islamic State in Iraq, business and employment education center, media studios for Chaldean News Radio, Chaldean Voice Radio, and Chaldean News TV, several classrooms for teaching the Sureth (Aramaic) language, and a theater.
Martin Manna, president of The Chaldean Community Foundation/Chamber of Commerce, told DB Business; “We are greatly looking forward to assisting our clients with human and social services on the westside, while offsetting the tremendous demand at our Sterling Heights facility. At the same time, we will be preserving and presenting our rich Chaldean culture through a wide range of mediums and platforms.”
Detroit, Michigan hosts the world’s largest concentrated Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian diaspora, 160 thousand strong. The number of Chaldeans-Syriacs-Assyrians in Iraq is estimated at between 400-500 thousand, down from 1.5. million in the pre-US invasion of Iraq of 2003.
