Levantine National Council urges international community to lift sanctions on Syria
DARAMSUQ — The Levantine National Council (LNC), a Syrian political group made up of various Christian political parties and organizations, issued a statement on Tuesday urging the international community to lift economic sanctions on Syria, arguing that the conditions justifying these measures no longer exist following the fall of the former regime.
In its statement, the LNC asserted that the sanctions have exacerbated Syria’s economic crisis and now hinder efforts toward national recovery, the return of refugees, and the improvement of basic living conditions.
“We believe the conditions that once justified the imposition of international sanctions on Syria are no longer present,” the Council stated. “We urge the international community to support Syria’s reconstruction and assist the Syrian people in rebuilding their lives.”
The statement emphasized the LNC’s vision for a sovereign and unified Syria, fully restored to its regional and international standing. “Syria must be a strong homeland, empowered by the strength of its people and the unity of all its communities,” it declared.
The appeal comes amid ongoing global debate regarding the humanitarian impact of sanctions on Syria, as well as broader concerns about accountability and the nation’s political future. The call from the Levantine National Council seeks to shift international focus toward reconstruction and reconciliation in the war-torn country.
