Trump embarks on Middle East tour, sparks speculation of Syria talks in Riyadh
RIYADH — US President Donald Trump arrived in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marking the beginning of his four-day Middle East tour, which will also include stops in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The trip, Trump’s first major overseas visit since taking office in January, has garnered attention amid speculation about a potential meeting with Ahmad al-Sharaa, head of the Syrian Transitional Government (STG), during his stay in Saudi Arabia.
White House Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt highlighted the significance of the visits, stating that the administration is focused on advancing key agreements despite persistent regional tensions and stalled conflict resolutions.
This visit marks Trump’s first extended international trip since his brief visit to Rome earlier this year to attend the funeral of Pope Francis. The Middle East tour underscores the administration’s commitment to engaging with regional allies on issues of mutual concern, including security and diplomatic challenges.
