Nada Alliance conference highlights empowerment of Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian women in the Middle East
SULAYMANIYAH, Kurdistan Region of Iraq — The Regional Democratic Women’s Alliance Conference, known as the Nada Alliance, convened in Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), bringing together the Syriac Women’s Union (Huyodo d’Neshe Suryoye b’Suriya, HNSS), Beth Nahrain Organization for Women (BNOW), and various other women’s organizations and activists from the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian community.
The Nada Alliance, formed in Beirut in 2021, aims to empower Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian women across the Middle East, advocate for their rights, and address the challenges they face — particularly those stemming from regional conflicts that disproportionately affect women and society.
Speaking to our newsdesk, HNSS Head Georgette Barsomo highlighted the organization’s active role within the alliance. “Since joining the Nada Alliance, we have focused on establishing internal regulations and forming committees to better organize operations,” Barsomo said.
She noted the creation of a dedicated committee for North and East Syria to ensure robust participation in the alliance’s initiatives. The Nada Alliance includes a diverse network of feminist organizations, activists, and journalists from the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian community, reflecting a united front in promoting gender equality and societal advancement.
Barsomo emphasized the Alliance’s mission to strengthen the role of women in the region, stating, “Our primary goal is to empower Syriac women, advocate for their rights, and tackle the numerous challenges they face.”
In closing, Barsomo reaffirmed the HNSS’s dedication to participating in the Alliance’s activities and events, underscoring their commitment to amplifying the voices of Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian women both locally and regionally.
The conference served as a powerful platform for collaboration, reinforcing the collective efforts of women’s organizations in advancing equality, empowerment, and resilience in the face of adversity.
