Ibrahim Mrad Calls on Zahle Residents to Back ‘Heart of Zahle’ List in Bid to End Corruption and Political Feudalism

ZAHLE, Lebanon — Ibrahim Mrad, President of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP), published a video address on Friday urging residents of Zahle to vote for the “Heart of Zahle” list in the upcoming municipal elections. Mrad framed the vote as a pivotal moment to challenge entrenched corruption, end political feudalism, and restore the city’s autonomy.

Zahle has always stood as a beacon of resistance—against the Assad regime and against the dominance of Hezbollah,” Mrad said. “Its people have endured years of municipal neglect and political marginalization. Now is the time for genuine change.”

Mrad argued that the “Heart of Zahle” list offers a rare opportunity to break free from the grip of traditional political elites and Hezbollah’s influence. He described the slate as committed to transparent, effective local governance and long-overdue urban renewal.

The list is backed by the Lebanese Forces party (LF)—widely seen as aligned with popular sentiment—and enjoys additional support from the USUP and key families in Zahle. Mrad said this coalition is capable of elevating local voices within both Parliament and Lebanon’s executive institutions.

Emphasizing the need to keep Zahle’s political destiny in the hands of its residents, The USUP President warned against efforts by rival factions to sabotage the reformist agenda of the Heart of Zahle list. “There are powerful forces working to block this list from succeeding,” he cautioned. “But this election is nothing short of decisive for Zahle’s future and the independence of its decisions.”

Mrad closed his address by expressing confidence in the electorate. “I trust the people of Zahle,” he said. “I urge you to vote in large numbers—for a Zahle that is free, strong, and prosperous.”
