Syriac Catholic Patriarch meets US Vice President at Vatican, discusses Middle East stability

VATICAN — Syriac Catholic Patriarch Mar Ignatius Youssef III Younan met with US Vice President Vance on 18 May in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican. The meeting occurred on the sidelines of the inaugural mass marking the enthronement of Pope Leo XIV and the beginning of his papacy. 

During the encounter, Patriarch Younan expressed gratitude to Vice President Vance, acknowledging US efforts in promoting global peace and security. He emphasized the importance of sustaining initiatives to foster stability and prosperity throughout the Middle East. 

Vice President Vance reaffirmed the US. commitment to utilizing its resources to advance global peace and ensure dignified, secure lives for all. He also extended an invitation to Patriarch Younan to visit the United States.
