Syriac goldsmith in Germany severely injured during robbery attempt, two suspects arrested

GIESSEN, Germany — Four individuals attempted to rob a Syriac-owned gold shop on Saturday, targeting its collection of gold and jewelry. The shop, located in the central market square of Giessen — a German city with a significant Syriac community — was the scene of a violent attack that left the owner severely injured.

According to local sources, the goldsmith opened her shop as usual on Saturday morning when the assailants stormed in, threw her out, and brutally assaulted her. The owner sustained multiple fractures to her back and ribs, requiring hospitalization and surgery.

Two bystanders witnessed the robbery and intervened, prompting the attackers to flee. During the ensuing chase, one of the robbers sustained injuries.

German authorities have arrested two suspects, identified as a Polish and a Czech national. An investigation is underway, with efforts to apprehend the remaining two suspects ongoing. Police have called on residents to assist in the search.

This incident has heightened concerns within the Syriac community in Giessen, underscoring the need for vigilance and support for victims of violent crimes.
