Delegation from Administration of North and East Syria heads to Daramsuq to cement landmark agreement with Syrian Transitional Government

DARAMSUQ — A high-level delegation from the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) is preparing to visit Daramsuq (Damascus) on Friday to finalize a historic political and military agreement reached in March between head of the Syrian Transitional Government (STG) Ahmad al-Sharaa and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) General Commander Mazloum Abdi.

The announcement came from Abu Omar al-Idlibi, commander of the Northern Democratic Forces, a faction within the SDF. Al-Idlibi described the visit as “a pivotal step toward reinforcing national stability and strengthening the unity of the Syrian state.”

Signed on 10 March 2025, the agreement is the most significant reconciliation effort to date between the STG and DAARNES. It includes a comprehensive framework that addresses nationwide ceasefire commitments, the integration of the SDF into the Syrian national defense establishment, and the unification of civil institutions under shared governance.

Among its key points, the accord formally recognizes the Kurdish community as an indigenous component of the Syrian state, ensuring constitutional protections and rights. It also centralizes control over border crossings and strategic energy resources, including oil and gas fields, under the Syrian state’s authority. Additionally, it rejects any form of sectarianism or calls for the division of Syrian territory, emphasizing the need for national unity and collaborative governance.

The DAARNES delegation comprises six prominent leaders representing Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean), Kurdish, and Arab communities: Sanharib Barsom, Foza Youssef, Abdelhamid al-Mahbash, Ahmed Youssef, and Sozdar Haji. The group will be joined by spokespersons Maryam Ibrahim and Yasser Suleiman, who will serve as the public faces of the delegation.

This week’s mission builds on progress made during an April meeting between Abdi and representatives of the STG. That meeting focused on demilitarizing the Tishrin Dam region and facilitating the return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their homes. Both sides viewed these discussions as pivotal steps in addressing Syria’s ongoing humanitarian and geopolitical challenges.
