Bethnahrin Women’s Union celebrates cultural heritage at annual multicutural festival in Göppingen, Germany

GÖPPINGEN, Germany — More than 250 organizations took part in the annual cultural festival held in Göppingen, Germany, an occasion dedicated to presenting the diverse communities living in the city.

Among the participants were members of the Bethnahrin Women’s Union (Huyodo d’Neshe d’Bethnahrin, HNB), who joined the event’s parade and proudly showcased Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) culture.

The city of Göppingen places special importance on this festival, which began on Friday and concludes on Monday. It features the participation of more than 250 institutions and associations representing a wide range of nations and communities.

Local school students also participated, contributing to a vibrant program of exhibitions and cultural displays set up across various city booths. The Bethnahrin Women’s Union presented a colorful showcase featuring traditional attire, traditional foods, symbolic items representing our cultural identity — accompanied by Syriac music during the parade.

Göppingen is home to over 75 ethnic communities, giving the festival a rich and inclusive atmosphere. The HBA’s participation aimed to spotlight the unique identity and cultural legacy of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people — a contribution that was warmly received by attendees. Youth from the community also played an active role in the celebration, reinforcing the importance of cultural continuity and visibility.
