Syriac language course launched at Public Education Center in Medyad (Midyat), Turkey
MEDYAD, Turkey — A new Syriac language course has been opened at the Public Education Center in Medyad (Midyat), Turkey, following a request submitted by instructor Adem Coskun to the Ministry of Education on 28 September 2024, seeking permission to hold the course.
The request was recently approved, marking the first time the Syriac language will be officially taught at this center.
In recent months, interest in preserving and teaching the Syriac language has grown in Turkey, which, for the first time, has shown support for such efforts.
In this context, Coskun began teaching the Syriac language course at the Medyad Public Education Center.
The course has 29 students, including Syriacs, Kurds, Arabs, Turks, and Mhallamis, all eager to learn Syriac.
Official certificates will be awarded upon completion of the course.
Coskun has been teaching Syriac at the Tur Abdin Institute in Merde (Mardin) since 2020.
