Sovereign Front for Lebanon endorses Nawaf Salam’s position on militia disarmament
BEIRUT — The Sovereign Front for Lebanon affirmed the advocacy group’s alignment with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s recent statements regarding the disarmament of Hezbollah and other militias in Lebanon. In its statement, the Front stressed that Salam’s positions reflect the sentiments of many Lebanese, who are increasingly frustrated with uncontrolled weapons—particularly those of Hezbollah, as well as the widespread presence of arms in Palestinian refugee camps.
The Sovereign Front noted a clear and unwanted delay in the government’s handling of pressing issues across various public sectors. It stated that there is no justification for such sluggishness in advancing state reconstruction efforts through institutional reforms. It, therefore, announced plans to hold a series of meetings with key political figures, including Syriac Maronite President Joseph Aoun, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and several ministers to push forward the process of rebuilding the state.
The Front’s statement further strongly condemned the disrespectful attacks on Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji (Lebanese Forces). It denounced the verbal attacks and insults directed at him, praising Rajji’s diplomatic efforts and sovereign stances, which it said solidify his reputation as Lebanon’s foremost diplomat.
The Sovereign Front for Lebanon is coordinated by National Liberal Party leader Camille Joseph Chamoun. The Universal Syriac Union Party is a member of the Front.
