“Asadur” Documentary on Armenian Genocide and Identity Set to Screen in Vienna
VIENNA — The documentary titled Asadur, focusing on the Armenian Genocide and the ongoing struggle for cultural identity, is set to screen on Thursday, June 19, at the Admiral Kino theater in Vienna, Austria.
Recognizing art as a powerful lens through which the suffering and resilience of communities can be portrayed, the documentary Asadur has been produced to spotlight the Armenian Genocide—a tragedy that forced Armenian people into exile and diaspora. The documentary also delves into the ongoing struggle to reclaim Armenian identity in Turkey.
Directed by Mohammed Emin Yildiz, Asadur follows the story of an elderly man in Turkey who, in the twilight of his life, embarks on a deeply personal journey to reclaim his Armenian identity from a long-silenced past.
Filming took place in the Turkish region of Malatya, an area that still holds traces of Armenian heritage. Asadur’s personal narratives reveal the emotional and cultural struggles involved in rebuilding a marginalized identity, while also shedding light on the enduring impact of the Armenian Genocide to this day.
The makers describe Asadur as a personal story, portraying an ongoing struggle for identity, and inviting the audience to confront this historical reckoning.
