European delegation explores justice and humanitarian cooperation in North and East Syria

BETH ZALIN, North and East Syria — A high-level delegation of European Parliament members, human rights advocates, and legal professionals from the French organization Lawyers Without Borders visited the Foreign Relations Commission of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) this week. The talks focused on justice and humanitarian issues in the war-torn region.

The visit aimed to foster cooperation on legal and human rights initiatives, uniting European officials and legal experts with local leaders working to address the challenges of post-conflict governance.

Discussions revolved around enhancing humanitarian collaboration, building capacity within local legal systems, and advancing accountability and human rights protections in areas long neglected by international frameworks.

The delegation included French Member of European Parliament from France and Chair of the EU Subcommittee on Human Rights Mounir Satouri (), Chair of the Human Rights Committee of France’s National Bar Council Emmanuelle Moreno, head of the French Association for Universal Brotherhood Fabienne Sevrin, lawyer based in Paris Marie Dosé, and representative of Lawyers Without Borders Mathieu Jagard.

Officials from DAARNES highlighted the significance of the meeting as a bridge between local governance efforts and international legal standards. They emphasized the importance of such engagements in advancing the region’s reconstruction and justice efforts, offering pathways for sustained international collaboration.
