Syriac Directorate of Culture and Arts in Nohadra organizes children’s festival for International Children’s Day in Alqosh
ALQOSH, Iraq — The Syriac Directorate of Culture and Arts in Nohadra (Duhok), in collaboration with the Chaldean Church of Alqosh and the Monastery of the Virgin Mary, hosted a children’s festival to mark International Children’s Day.
Held in the courtyard of the historic monastery in Nineveh Plains, the festival brought together children from catechism classes and the town of Alqosh for a day of celebration, creativity, and community engagement. Local officials, clergy, and community members attended the event, which emphasized the importance of nurturing the next generation.
Kaldo Ramzi Oghanna, Director General of Syriac Culture and Arts, opened the festivities by underlining the critical role of children in the community’s future. He called on institutions to prioritize children’s development and praised cultural events as spaces for fostering their creativity and intellectual growth.
Father Rudi Saffar of the Alqosh Church echoed these sentiments, encouraging investment in children’s mental and physical growth through interactive and social activities.
The event featured various performances and activities, including games, competitions, and two notable plays. One explored society’s obsession with social media, while another dramatized Christ’s first miracle at the Wedding at Cana, captivating the young audience and attendees alike.
The festival served as a meaningful reminder of the value of cultural and educational initiatives in shaping a hopeful and dynamic future for the region’s youth.
