Syriac Union Party and Beth Nahrain Patriotic Union announce commemorative events for Sayfo Genocide martyrs

BETH ZALIN, North and Syria / BAGHDEDE, Iraq — On the 110th anniversary of the 1915 Sayfo Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire and its Kurdish tribal allies against the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, the Syriac Union Party (SUP) in Syria and the Beth Nahrain Patriotic Union (Huyodo d’Bethnahrin Athroyo, HBA) in Iraq announced a series of commemorative events.

The SUP invited members of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community and the wider public to attend a memorial event on Sunday, 15 June, in Beth Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria. The event will be held at 6:30 PM at Mor Gabriel Hall under the theme The Sayfo Genocide is a Cause of People, Land, and Nation — We Remain Loyal Until Justice Is Served.



Meanwhile, in Iraq, the HBA will host a panel discussion marking the anniversary. The session is scheduled for Friday, 13 June at 6:00 PM in the Martyrs’ Hall at the Chaldo-Ashur Organization of the Kurdistan Communist Party, opposite the Chaldean Cultural Association, in Arba’ilo (Erbil), Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).

According to the HBA’s announcement on Facebook, the program will also feature a documentary screening about the Sayfo Genocide.

Additional memorial activities are planned across the region. On 12 June, a commemoration event will be held in Baghdede (Qaraqosh / Hamdaniyah). On June 13, Ankawa will host a panel and film screening highlighting the historical impact of the genocide.
