Syrian Border Authority announces reopening of Al-Bukamal crossing with Iraq

DARAMSUQ — In a significant move aimed at strengthening economic and trade relations between Daramsuq (Damascus) and Baghdad, the Syrian General Authority for Land and Maritime Border Crossings announced the reopening of the Al-Bukamal border crossing with Iraq for both passenger and cargo truck traffic, starting Saturday, 14 June.

In a statement released Thursday, the authority confirmed the full readiness of its staff and all service facilities at the crossing, calling on travelers and truck drivers to adhere to the established guidelines and procedures to ensure smooth flow and safe passage.

The Al-Bukamal crossing is considered a strategic border point linking Syria and Iraq, serving as a major gateway for trade between the two countries.

The crossing had been closed following the toppling of the authoritarian regime of Bashar al-Assad on 8 December. It was briefly reopened on 19 December to allow the return of approximately 2,000 Syrian soldiers who had fled to Iraq.
