New Jersey cinemas to screen “Souls in Transit” documentary

TEANECK, New Jersey/WORCESTER, Massachusetts — American cinemas are preparing to screen the documentary Souls in Transit, which chronicles the tragic massacres committed by the Ottoman Empire and allied Kurdish tribes against the Syriac people during World War I, shedding light on the barbaric crimes that occurred in recent years.

Directed by Aida Schlaepfer, the film will be screened on June 15th at 6:30 PM at the Tink Cinema in Teaneck, New Jersey. On June 17th, the film will also be screened at 6:45 PM with support from the Church of the Virgin Mary in Worchester.

Tickets are priced at $25. Following the screenings, a discussion and Q&A session will be held, with the director answering audience questions.

European Syriac Union official Shleymun Rhawi extended an invitation to members of the Syriac community in New Jersey and Worcester to attend the screenings to raise awareness and deepen understanding of the Syriac people’s history and the policies aimed at erasing it.
