Heavy security deployment by Sutoro in North and East Syria after suicide attack in Daramsuq
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — The Syriac Security Forces (Sutoro) initiated a large-scale security operation around churches in North and East Syria in response to Sunday’s suicide attack at the Greek (Rûm) Orthodox Church of Mar Elias in Daramsuq (Damascus). Both the men’s and women’s branches of Sutoro are actively involved in the deployment.
In a public statement, Sutoro urged citizens to cooperate fully by reporting any suspicious objects or individuals directly to on-site security personnel or through publicly provided contact numbers. The organization emphasized that maintaining vigilance and preparedness is a shared responsibility to ensure the safety of all citizens, particularly Christians.
Heavy security deployments of this scale are typically reserved for Christian holidays and major religious events. However, the recent attack, which claimed the lives of 28 people and left dozens injured, has prompted Sutoro to intensify its protective measures.
