Ibrahim al-Qass Ibrahim details meeting with Syrian government officials

DARAMSUQ — In comments to SyriacPress, Ibrahim al-Qass Ibrahim, a member of the Christian civil delegation meeting with the Syrian government, said that a group of Christian civil society representatives recently met with representatives of the government to convey the concerns and hardships facing the people of Syria’s Gozarto (Jazira) region, particularly the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) and other Christian communities.

Ibrahim emphasized that the delegation highlighted the urgent need to resolve the water crisis in Hasakah Governorate, stressing the importance of close cooperation with the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) to protect water wells and ensure the continuous supply of water to residents amid ongoing challenges.

The discussions also addressed the importance of strengthening the presence of Syriacs (Arameans–Assyrians–Chaldeans), and other ethnic and religious minorities, within state institutions — particularly in decision-making roles — to guarantee authentic representation of this historic and integral component of Syrian society.

On national and religious matters, Ibrahim noted that the delegation called for the protection of Christian community schools and the appointment of qualified individuals to represent the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people in the Syrian parliament.

He concluded by underscoring the importance of implementing the agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian presidency as soon as possible, given its potential to enhance stability and resolve several pending issues.
