Christians in Bremen, Germany, unite in prayer for victims of Mar Elias Church attack
BREMEN, Germany — Christians in Bremen, Germany, gathered to honor the victims of the terrorist attack on the Greek (Rûm) Orthodox Church of Mar Elias in Daramsuq (Damascus), Syria. A joint prayer service was held at the Church of the Virgin Mary, bringing together members of the Syriac Maronite Church, the Greek Orthodox Church, the European Syriac Union (ESU), and the Bethnahrin Women’s Union (Huyodo d’Neshe d’Bethnahrin, HNB).
The solemn occasion featured a Divine Liturgy and speeches from community leaders. The speakers condemned the attack on Christians in the Douileh neighborhood and denounced the continued persecution of religious minorities in Syria.
Calls were made for enhanced protection of Christian communities and other vulnerable groups, alongside demands for accountability for the perpetrators of the bombing. The event underscored the solidarity and resilience of diaspora communities in the face of targeted violence.
