Bethnahrin National Council delegation meets with Bet-Nahrain Democratic Party and Assyrian Democratic Movement in Iraq

ARBA’ILO, Kurdistan Region of Iraq — A delegation from the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo d’Bethnahrin, MUB) held official meetings this week with the Bet-Nahrain Democratic Party (BNDP) and the Assyrian Democratic Movement (Zowaa). The discussions aimed to foster collaboration and address pressing national issues affecting the Syriac (Assyrian-Chaldean-Aramean) community.

The delegation included Co-Chair of the European Syriac Union (ESU) Manuela Demir,  Elham Matli, Representative of the Syriac Women’s Union (Huyodo d’Neshe Suryoye b’Suriya, HNSS), and Member of the Political Bureau of the Bethnahrin Patriotic Union (Huyodo d’Bethnahrin Athroyo, HBA) Samer Khaled Shamoun.

During their visit to the BNDP headquarters, the delegation engaged in talks with senior party officials, focusing on the political climate in Iraq and Syria. Key topics included safeguarding cultural identity and political rights amidst regional instability.

At the Zowaa headquarters, strategic discussions revolved around enhancing diaspora engagement, bolstering national representation, and increasing the influence of Christian institutions in advocacy efforts both locally and internationally.


 


Both meetings highlighted a shared commitment to uniting the political voice of the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people. Participants emphasized the importance of coordinated actions to defend community rights and promote national interests in a complex and challenging geopolitical landscape.

These engagements represent a critical step toward greater alignment among key institutions and organizations striving to secure a stable and equitable future for Christian communities in Iraq and the broader region.
