Syrian Democratic Council reaffirms dialogue and inclusion as pillars for a stable Syria
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive dialogue and the participation of all segments of Syrian society as essential steps toward building a new Syria and achieving long-term stability.
This stance followed the SDC’s regular meeting held in Hasakah, within the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES).
The session, co-chaired by Leila Qaraman and Mahmoud al-Muslat, emphasized that a Syrian-led dialogue process — one that engages all communities — is the most effective path toward a lasting political solution.
Among the key takeaways, the SDC noted that Western powers often pursue regional interests that may diverge from the aspirations of local populations. It highlighted North and East Syria as a vital and active partner in shaping Syria’s future.
The SDC also clarified that decentralization should not be seen as a move toward secession but rather as a democratic framework for shared governance and local empowerment.
The SDC criticized Turkey and other regional actors for hindering internal Syrian reconciliation efforts, accusing them of obstructing progress toward a unified and peaceful resolution.
In related news, SDC representative in Daramsuq (Damascus) Ali Rahmoun, announced that Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) General Commander Mazloum Abdi is expected to meet with US Ambassador to Turkey and Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Barrack. This potential meeting follows reported advancements in recent discussions between DAARNES delegates and Syrian government officials, including preliminary agreements to establish joint committees.
While the exact timing remains unconfirmed, the anticipated meeting between Barrack and Abdi — likely their first direct engagement — could mark a significant step forward in ongoing negotiations between the SDF and the Syrian government.
