Ancient DNA discovery confirms link between Beth Nahrain and Ancient Egypt
LIVERPOOL, UK – A recent archaeological breakthrough is making waves in the scientific community, as researchers have uncovered ancient DNA evidence pointing to a direct connection between Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia) and Ancient Egypt.
The discovery stems from a genetic study conducted on the remains of a man who lived during the era of pyramid construction in Egypt. DNA analysis revealed that his ancestry traced back to the Beth Nahrain region (Mesopotamia), marking the first clear genetic evidence of a person belonging to one of the world’s earliest civilizations.
Archaeologists from Liverpool John Moores University in the UK confirmed that the man’s parents and grandparents originated from Beth Nahrain (Mesopotamia), offering new insights into the interconnectedness of ancient civilizations.
The findings strongly suggest that Beth Nahrain and Ancient Egypt maintained robust political and trade ties, collaborating in areas such as writing systems, cultural exchange, engineering, and early technological development.
Researchers also noted that multiple Beth Nahrain (Mesopotamian) artifacts have been previously found in Ancient Egyptian sites, reinforcing the idea of deep-rooted historical contact between the two civilizations.
The man, believed to have been around 60 years old at the time of his death, stood approximately 159 cm tall and reportedly suffered from a bone disease. His remains were originally uncovered in a large cave in 1902, at the Al-Nuwairat burial site, and are still remarkably well preserved.
In 2022, archaeologists discovered his teeth, which enabled DNA extraction and analysis, ultimately leading to the confirmation of his Mesopotamian origins.
