ESU calls on Syriacs to participate in commemoration services and demonstrations in solidarity with Christians in Syria

BRUSSELS/EINSIDELN, Switserland — Waves of support and solidarity continue to pour in from around the world for the martyrs and wounded of the terrorist suicide bombing that targeted the Mar Elias Church in the Dweilaa neighborhood of the Syrian capital, Daramsuq (Damascus).

The European Syriac Union (ESU) has issued a call to all Syriacs (Chaldean-Assyrian-Aramean) to attend at Brussels’ Jean Rey Square and show their solidarity. According to a statement published on ESU’s official Facebook page, the peaceful demonstration will be held in front of the European Council building at Jean Rey Square at two o’clock in the afternoon.

The peaceful demonstration, organized by the Committee of Eastern Christian Churches in Belgium under the slogan “Let us raise our voice in unity and solidarity, honor our martyrs, and support our people,” is scheduled to take place this Sunday, July 13, and will commemorate the martyrs and demand protection for Christians in Syria. The organizers called on members of the Christian community to participate in this event in rejection of violence and urge for international protection for Christians in Syria.

The European Syriac Union also announced a joint prayer for the souls of the victims of the terrorist bombing at the Einsiedeln Monastery in Switzerland on Saturday at two PM. The prayer will be attended by priests, representatives of church councils, and a large number of community members.
