Street named after Syriac general Jean Moussa Chamoun

ZAHLE, Lebanon — In a ceremony marked by heartfelt tribute and civic pride, the municipality of Zahle named a street after retired Syriac General Jean Moussa Chamoun, honoring his decades of military service and unwavering commitment to the nation. 

The event, held under the patronage of Zahle’s Mayor Salim Ghazaleh, brought together local officials, military representatives, and residents in a rare moment of unity and remembrance. A plaque bearing the general’s name was unveiled during the ceremony, formally dedicating the street to his legacy. 

Mayor Ghazaleh, addressing the crowd, emphasized Zahle’s enduring loyalty to its sons and daughters, praising General Chamoun’s distinguished record of discipline, patriotism, and service. “Zahle never forgets its loyal citizens,” Ghazaleh said. “This tribute is a symbol of our city’s gratitude to one of its own who served the nation with honor.” 

Among those in attendance was Lt. Maria Grigory, head of Zahle’s General Security Office, representing General Security Chief Hassan Shaqir, along with members of the municipal council and members of the Chamoun family. 

Visibly moved, General Chamoun expressed deep appreciation for the gesture. “I am proud of my roots in Zahle and grateful for this recognition,” he said, standing before a crowd that included longtime friends and family. 

The ceremony was warmly received by attendees, reflecting broad admiration for Chamoun’s career and character. For many in Zahle, it was not just the naming of a street—it was a reaffirmation of shared values and the deep bonds that tie a community to its history.
