Syriac Union Party in Lebanon calls for commemorative event honoring Syriac martyrs
BEIRUT — The Syriac Union Party (SUP) in Lebanon issued an open invitation through a post on its official Facebook page, calling on members of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community to participate in a commemorative event marking the anniversary of the martyrdom of 1,132 Syriacs who gave their lives for Lebanon as part of the Lebanese resistance.
The party stated in its post, “We are the ones who turned to resistance and struggle so that Lebanon and freedom may endure,” emphasizing the importance of preserving the memory and legacy of the martyrs’ sacrifices.
The Zahle Coordination of the party is organizing the event, which will include prayers for the souls of the martyrs and the laying of wreaths at the memorial in their honor.
The event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 27 July 2025, at 7:30 PM in the Syriac Martyrs’ Square in Zahle.
The Lebanese Civil War broke out in 1975 and lasted until 1990, claiming the lives of many, including from the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community, who constituted a significant portion of the Christian resistance martyrs.
