Daoud Daoud, veteran Assyrian political leader, dies at 62
ZALIN, North and East Syria — Daoud Lahdo Daoud, a longtime leader in the Assyrian Democratic Organization (ADO), died Friday, July 18, 2025, after a long illness. He was 62.
Daoud, a trained engineer, dedicated decades to the political and cultural rights of Syria’s Syriac-Assyrian people. He was elected head of the ADO in 2019 during the group’s 13th General Congress in Zalin (Qamishli), playing a key role in shaping its democratic and national vision.
Known for his integrity and tireless activism, Daoud was forced to step down due to illness but remained a close advisor and moral force within the organization. He is survived by his wife, children, and siblings.
A funeral procession was held on Saturday, July 19, starting from the ADO’s headquarters in the Wusta neighborhood to the Syriac Orthodox Church of the Virgin Mary in Zalin (Qamishli).
