Syriac Orthodox Church opens 14th Annual Syriac Summer Camp in Sadad, Syria
SADAD, Syria — The Syriac Orthodox Archdiocese of Hmoth (Homs), Hemto (Hama), and Tartous and their Environs announced the opening of the 14th Annual Syriac Summer Camp in Sadad, in the Hmoth countryside.
Held annually, this year’s camp hosts around 400 children, supervised by 50 young male and female volunteers.
The camp offers a rich variety of activities tailored to different age groups, from 5 to 15 years old.
This year’s theme, Stay Close to Me, My Children, includes a wide-ranging program featuring Bible stories, handicrafts and creative projects, in addition to physical games and outdoor activities, community initiatives, discussion sessions, sports competitions, Biblical quizzes and entertainment events.
The Syriac Summer Camp in Sadad was originally established in 2012 by Syriac Orthodox Archbishop of Holeb and its Environs Mor Butros Kassis during his service in the region.
Sadad, a predominantly Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) town with 15,000 residents, is located 60 km south of Hmoth near the M5 highway, a vital highway connecting Daramsuq and Hmoth.
In 2013, it was overrun by militants from Al-Nusra Front, Al-Qaeda’s affiliate in Syria, which later transformed into Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
