Funeral Mass held for Late Michel Romi in Hasakah, North and East Syria
HASAKAH, North and East Syria — A funeral Mass was held for soul of the General Director of the Olaf Taw Association for Syriac Language, the Late Michel Romi, at the Lady of the Assumption Syriac Catholic Church in Hasakah, Gozarto (Jazira) Canton, North and East Syria.
Romi passed away on the morning of Friday, 11 July 2025, in Beth Zalin (Qamishli) at the age of 44 after battling illness.
A delegation from the Education Authority of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES), as well as representatives from the Gozarto Education Committee, joined members of the Olaf Taw Association and local residents in offering condolences to the grieving family.

Born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Romi grew up in Holeb (Aleppo) before moving to work in Hasakah. He was married to Maryam Abo and had one daughter, Christel Romi.
Romi was known for his dedicated efforts within Olaf Taw Association, where he worked passionately for over a year to promote and teach the Syriac language.
Alongside his colleagues, he played a key role in developing a Syriac language curriculum and integrating it into the school programs in North and East Syria.
