Limited truce in three Gaza areas to address worsening famine
GAZA — Amid growing international warnings of an imminent famine in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli military announced on Sunday the start of a limited daily humanitarian truce in three densely populated areas of the territory. The move aims to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid and alleviate the worsening food crisis.
According to a statement issued by the Israeli army, the truce will cover the areas of Gaza City, Deir al-Balah, and al-Mawasi. It will be in effect daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time and will remain in place until further notice.
This move follows increasing global alarm over the deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where food insecurity has reached critical and unprecedented levels. The Israeli military stated that it has conducted airdrops of aid packages—including flour, sugar, and canned food—alongside the entry of humanitarian aid trucks through the Rafah border crossing with Egypt.
Despite the announcement of this partial truce, the Israeli military confirmed that it would continue its “military operations against Hamas” in other parts of the Strip.
International organizations and food security experts have consistently sounded the alarm over the severe restrictions on aid entering Gaza—limitations Israel justifies by alleging that Hamas uses the supplies to strengthen its control. Recent images of severely malnourished children circulating in the media have triggered widespread international outrage, including criticism from some of Israel’s closest allies, who are now urging an end to the war and immediate action to stop the unfolding humanitarian disaster.
