Baghdeda team clinches first place in Iraqi volleyball championship
KERKHESLOKH (KIRKUK), Iraq — Day after day, the Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian community in Iraq continues to demonstrate their remarkable talents and capabilities across various fields, including culture, literature, and now sports.
The Baghdeda women’s volleyball team took first place at the Iraqi Club Volleyball Championship, held in Kerkheslokh (Kirkuk), Iraq. The Baghdeda team claimed victory in the final match against the Aphrodite team, winning three sets to one. Meanwhile, the Darbandikhan team secured third place.
Four teams advanced to the semi-finals: Akad Ankawa, Aphrodite, Baghdeda, and Darbandikhan. The semi-final matches resulted in Baghdeda defeating Akad Ankawa three sets to none, and Aphrodite topping Darbandikhan with the same scoreline, securing their spots in the final.
In the third-place playoff, Akad Ankawa faced Darbandikhan, with the latter clinching third place in the championship. The tournament commenced on July 16, 2025, at the hall of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Halabja.
