Surayto Women’s Council delegation visits Iraqi Communist Party in Baghdad
BAGHDAD — As part of its ongoing efforts to foster dialogue and strengthen cooperation between civil society forces and women’s organizations — and within the broader framework of its official visits in both Syria and Iraq — a delegation from the Surayto Women’s Council visited the headquarters of the Iraqi Communist Party in Baghdad, where they were received by the party leader Raed Fahmi.
During the meeting, the Surayto Women’s Council delegation presented a brief overview of the historic Global Syriac Women’s Conference, which was held recently, highlighting its key objectives and outcomes. The delegation also emphasized the significance of establishing the Women’s Council as a structured platform aimed at promoting the role of women in communities with Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian heritage.
For his part, Raed Fahmi praised the Council’s efforts to empower women and organize such impactful initiatives. He stressed that organized and responsible action plays a crucial role in achieving social justice and expanding women’s representation across various spheres. Fahmi also shared a number of valuable insights and suggestions aimed at enhancing the Council’s work and overcoming foreseeable challenges.
The meeting, which lasted several hours, was marked by constructive dialogue and a mutual exchange of ideas on how to bolster women’s participation in political, social, and cultural life. Both sides expressed their commitment to future collaboration in ways that serve the common good.
The visit underscored a shared interest in strengthening civic structures and building alliances with progressive national parties — especially at a time when the country is undergoing significant social and political changes that call for an active and influential role for women in shaping the path forward.
