HASAKAH, North and East Syria — As part of a series of meetings held in Syria and Iraq, a delegation from the Surayto Women’s Council met with Syriac Catholic Bishop of Hasakah Monsignor Joseph Shamee, in ongoing efforts to strengthen dialogue between women’s organizations and religious leaders.
The meeting, which took place in Hasakah, North and East Syria, discussed the establishment of the first Surayto Women’s Conference, viewed as a strategic platform to advance the status of Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) women in homeland and in diaspora.
Shamee expressed his full support for the conference, describing it as a “critically important step” toward empowering women within Syriac communities.
He added that he would encourage women in church institutions to join the initiative, believing in their vital role in shaping a more inclusive and just future.
