ISIS attack in Dayro Zcuro kills two SDF fighters amid ongoing threats in North and East Syria
DAYRO ZCURO, North and East Syria — On the evening of Wednesday, 6 August 2025, two fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were killed following an armed assault by Islamic State (ISIS) militants on a military vehicle in the town of Al-Bahra, in the countryside of Dayro Zcuro (Deir ez-Zor). This is the latest in a wave of recent terrorist attacks targeting both civilians and military personnel in North and East Syria, particularly in the eastern region of Dayro Zcuro.
The SDF Media Center released a statement confirming the incident:
“Two of our heroic fighters were martyred this evening, Wednesday, as a result of a cowardly armed attack carried out by two members of ISIS terrorist cells. The attack occurred in the town of Al-Bahra, in the Hajin area of eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside, and targeted one of our military vehicles with machine gun fire. The assailants, who were riding a motorcycle, fled the scene following the assault.”
The attack reportedly occurred at 8:00 PM, as the targeted SDF patrol was carrying out routine duties to uphold regional security. According to the statement, “Despite the challenging conditions under which our forces operate, this incident has not weakened our resolve to track down and eliminate ISIS’s remaining sleeper cells.”
Describing the assault as “a desperate attempt by the organization to reassert its presence following recent military pressure,” the SDF emphasized that the attack fits within a broader pattern of ISIS’s attempts to undermine the stability of areas that were liberated from its control.
The statement further noted, “The martyrdom of these two fighters serves as a stark reminder of the daily sacrifices made by our men and women to defend the Syrian people and protect their homeland.”
The SDF reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to pursuing ISIS remnants and preserving security throughout North and East Syria. It also highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation with local security forces and the international coalition to confront the persistent threat posed by ISIS cells. Measures include increased intelligence efforts and the expansion of patrols in high-risk zones.
The statement concluded by offering condolences to the families of the fallen fighters and reiterated the SDF’s determination to continue the fight against ISIS until the terrorist group is entirely eradicated.
