Deir ez-Zor Military Council frees four of its fighters during sweep operation against terrorism

DAYRO ZCURO (DEIR EZ-ZOR), North and East Syria — Recent months have seen a deterioration of the security situation in the Dayro Zcuro (Deir ez-Zor) area, with increased activities by unidentified armed groups and Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists. In response, the Deir ez-Zor Military Council, part of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have intensified inspections and operations on the hideouts of criminal gangs and terrorists, who have persistently carried out attacks against SDF personnel and civilians.

This week, four Council fighters were taken captive in the town of Ghrananji, east of Dayro Zcuro, by a group affiliated to Islamic State, the SDF said in a statement.

In a statement released today, the Deir ez-Zor Military Council Media Office stated that it has concluded a sweep operation to pursue ISIS cells in Gharanij and freed its four fighters.

“During the campaign, participating forces fully swept the town and captured 12 wanted individuals and suspects linked to ISIS sleeper cells. They were reportedly plotting terrorist operations against security and military forces, civilians, and vital service facilities in the area, with the aim of spreading chaos and destabilizing public safety. The forces also managed to free four fighters of the Deir Ezzor Military Council, who had previously been abducted while receiving medical treatment at a health center outside their official duties.

In conclusion, Deir ez-Zor Military Council affirmed that this week’s campaign is part of ongoing efforts to enhance security and stability in eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside. The operation was met with strong support and solidarity from the region’s tribes and local populace.
