Syriac Cultural Association sets date for fifth Mardutho Festival in North and East Syria

GOZARTO (JAZIRA), North and East Syria — After four years of successfully promoting Syriac (Assyrian-Chaldean-Aramean) culture through music, folklore, literature, and heritage arts, the Syriac Cultural Association in Syria announces that it will continue the Mardutho Festival series with its fifth edition. The festival, which has shared Syriac culture with local communities and audiences worldwide, will take place on September 6, 2025, at Mor Gabriel Hall in Beth Zalin (Qamishli) and on September 7, 2025, at Sardam Hall in Hasakah. Both events, supported by the Culture Authority of the Gozarto (Jazira) Canton, will begin at 6 PM.

This year’s edition, prepared over several months, will showcase poem recitations, folkloric performances, and choral singing by the association’s ensembles from Beth Zalin and Qabre Hewore (al-Qahtaniyah), along with musical performances by its students. This year’s festival will also be marked by the participation of additional Syriac (Chaldean-Assyrian-Aramean) groups, committees, and institutions, including Edessa Art Committee affiliated with the Church Council of the Syriac Orthodox Church in Beth Zalin, as well as the Elias Hanna Heritage Charitable Foundation.

In its announcement, the Syriac Cultural Association stressed that the festival “is not merely a temporary event, but a celebration of the living memory of an authentic people — a dynamic stage that tells the story of Syriac-Assyrian-Chaldean civilization and culture, which has endured for centuries.”
