Heavy snowfall in northeastern Syria and northern Iraq
QAMISHLI, Syria – In the early morning hours of Thursday, northeastern Syria woke to find a blanket of snow covering the area. Several days ago, the region witnessed the lowest temperatures it has seen so far this winter.
The 15 or so cm of snow lead to the closure of roads, shops, schools, and universities.
Children, who were in the streets, parks, and squares, hurled snowballs and made many snowmen without a care as snow and fun distracted them, at least for a while, from the cruelty of war.
In war-torn Syria, the young and old build snowmen and have snowball fights as rare snowfall blankets the streets of Qamishli. (Video: PressTV)
