ZALIN ܙܐܠܝܢ (QAMISHLI), Syria – As Syriacs are confined to their homes during the most important and happiest religious day of the year, Easter, the Syriac Youth Union (SYU) and the Syriac Union Party (SUP) in cooperation with the Syriac Sutoro police forces launched a happy Easter initiative to bring some joy and hope to the hearts of Syriac people in the city of Zalin (Qamishli). A motorcade adorned with SYU and SUP flags toured the streets with happy Easter greetings in Syriac and Arabic broadcasted through loudspeakers.
“We wish that this Holy Feast of the Resurrection will end the COVID-19 epidemic and bring goodness and peace to the world. Please, abide the curfew of the Health Directorate of the Democratic Autonomous Administration and stay in your homes until this health crisis passes.”
The SYU and SUP youth also handed out colored Eastern eggs and sweets to the security checkpoints watching over the region’s security day and night as an expression of gratitude for their important work. The happy Easter initiative was much welcomed by the Syriac people of Zalin. People thanked the Syriac Youth Union, the Syriac Union Party and the Sutoro Syriac police forces for their message of hope and joy in difficult times.
