SYRIA: Syriac Security Forces buildings targeted with sound bombs in Zalin and Hasakah
HASAKAH and ZALIN ܙܐܠܝܢ (QAMISHLI), Syria – Anonymous attackers targeted a headquarters of the Syriac Security Forces (Sutoro), a part of North and East Syria’s Internal Security Forces (ISF) in the Al-Gharbia neighborhood of Zalin (Qamishli) with a sound bomb on Sunday. No material damage or casualties were caused by the explosion. Meanwhile, another sound bomb was thrown near the headquarters of the Sutoro in Hasakah city.
In a statement posted to its official Facebook page, the Sutoro said:
“After the continuous security work of our forces and the intensification of patrols and mobile checkpoints during the curfew announced by the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) to prevent the outbreak of COVID-19 in the regions of North and East Syria, anonymous people, aiming to destabilize the security of the region, threw a sound bomb on the center of the Syriac Internal Security Forces (Sutoro) in Al-Gharbia neighborhood in Zalin (Qamishli), on Sunday, at 8:00 P.M.”
Although the perpetrators of the sound bomb attacks are unknown, there have been a series of incidents in recent weeks between units of the ISF and members of the Syrian regime-aligned National Defense Forces (NDF) irregulars, with members of the NDF throwing sound bombs and hand grenades at ISF checkpoints.
Several of the incidents escalated to exchanges of small arms fire and resulted in death and injury on both sides, as well as of civilians.
