LEBANON: Possible survivors located under rubble a month after deadly explosion

BEIRUT — On Thursday, a month after the massive explosive at Beirut’s port, a rescue team in the  Gemmayzeh managed to locate possible trapped under the rubble of collapsed buildings.

Paramedic Eddy Bitar said that the team, with the help of trained dogs, detected signals indicating the presence of breathing and body heat, indicating the presence of possible survivors.

In related news, the Lebanese Army found more than 4 tons of ammonium nitrate — the substance that caused the explosion of Beirut port — near an entrance to the port.

The National Media Agency quoted a statement by the Lebanese Army which announced that the Engineering Regiment Units are working to remove the found substance.

Some analysts wondered why the recently found quantity did not explode during the massive explosion. Others suggested that it was transported to the port after the explosion.
