NORTH AND EAST SYRIA – In a statement to SyriacPress, commander and spokesperson for the Syriac Military Council (Mawtbo Fulḥoyo Suryoyo, MFS) Aram Hanna stated that Deputy Commander of the U.S.-led International Coalition against the Islamic State Maj. Gen. Kevin Copsey assured him the support of the Coalition for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the war against terrorism.
SDF spokesperson, Kino Gabriel announced that during their recent visit to the region, SDF and Coalition leadership discussed various joint programs to support the SDF and to further develop their capabilities to confront the Islamic State (ISIS) cells remaining in Syria and to support security and stability operations in the local communities liberated from ISIS.
“Copsey confirmed that Coalition forces will remain in the region in their current form and current numbers,” said Gabriel, noting that “the policy and programs of the international coalition in Syria will be changed.”
Hanna told SyriacPress that he believed Copsey’s visit was fruitful and believes the Coalition with take further steps to improve the capacity of the SDF.
“We also talked about the camps and the fighters in our custody, the mechanism for dealing with them and the mechanism for their peaceful reintegration into society,” Hanna concluded.
