Lebanon: President of the Universal Syriac Union Party Ibrahim Mrad, let Christmas be the birthplace of a new Middle East of peace, joy and stability

BEIRUT – In a Facebook post, President of the Syriac Union Party Ibrahim Mrad send out a merry Christmas message especially to all the families of the martyrs who lost their loved ones for the sake of the country and to the displaced people who have been driven from their homes. Mrad expressed his heartfelt wish that the year 2021 will be a year free of adversity and sorrows, a new phase full of successes and positive developments for his troubled homeland Lebanon and the broader Middle East.

Mrad emphasized in his message the unity of the Syriac people (Arameans-Assyrians-Chaldeans), wherever they are in the world. Only hand-in-hand can the Syriac people prove they are a life-loving people who reject the culture of death and suicide, calling on the Syriacs to join forces to create a new political system that respects mankind and sanctifies the soil of the homeland.

The Universal Syriac Party is a fierce opponent of Iran-proxy Hezbollah, and has called many times for an end to ‘the state within a state’ and the devastating influence by Iran and the Syrian Ba’ath regime on Lebanese politics. USUP in its party program favors a federal solution for Lebanon.

Mrad extended greetings and congratulations to the cadre of the Lebanese Syriac Union Party, all the Syriac Lebanese parties and institutions, and all the Syriac people in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and all over the world. In conclusion to his Christmas message USUP President Mrad called on everyone to join hands as societies, nationalities, and ethnicities to meet in love and respect, because peace and solidarity are humanity’s fundamental values.

Lebanon is the last Syriac stronghold in the Middle East where Syriacs under their different denominations as Syriac Maronites, Syriac Rum Melkites, Syriac Orthodox and Syriac Catholics, have significant influence within the state polity to secure their future existence within an Arab, Turkish, Iranian Middle East.
